MBAs Without Borders

With the IP Convergence breaking down geographic boundaries of technology, the flow on effect has reached universities with the introduction of online MBA's.

A recent venture aims to take that one step further, and address the remoteness of online MBS students from applied lectures and business mentors.

MBAs Without Borders, a humanitarian venture partners volunteers from around the globe with local businesses, multinational corporations and NGOs in underdeveloped nations. Similar to Doctors Without Borders and Engineers Without Borders, the idea is for professionals to invest their expertise to help in parts of the world that are not so privileged.

MBAs Without Borders vision is guided by e3 principles

  1. Enabling Private Enterprise,
  2. Educating Locals and
  3. Engaging in Local Community.

Projects typically fall within five key industries:

  1. health care,
  2. agriculture,
  3. financial,
  4. income-generation and
  5. climate change.

The organization so far has deployed MBAs to Mexico, Haiti, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Vietnam and Poland.

Projects typically last four to six months, but can last a year. The organization covers costs for travel, accommodations, travel, business calls and other related expenses, and volunteers receive a generous monthly stipend of USD 1,000.

MBA Students gain invaluable experience and a great entry for their resumes.

The program is also proving popular with business; MBAs Without Borders frequently hears from international businesses and NGOs looking to hire new talent.

Founded in Canada in 2004, MBAs Without Borders hopes to expand into the United States Europe and Australia in coming years.
