College Awards, Scholarships and Grants

Each college has its own awards and grants program, so you will need to check each campus website. In general however, most colleges follow an awards and grants program that includes:

General Merit Scholarships

Scholarships are normally awarded on an annual basis and in most cases cover half of the tution fees. The funds are released in two tranches - half the annual amount of the scholarship being credited to the student’s account during the first semester and the other half during the second semester.

Scholarships and grants are available to full-time students only; and scholarship and grant recipients may also be eligible to receive other forms of institutional, federal, and state aid. In most cases, only one institutional “merit” scholarship can be awarded to each student.

There are both institutional and academic scholarships and most are renewable each year for a full four year degree period.

Honor Scholarships

Honor scholarships are generally full-tuition merit based scholarships and in some cases, on-campus residency is required.

Endowed Scholarship

A number of endowed and gift scholarships are provided by individuals and foundations to assist students in meeting the educational cost of attending College.

These are need-based awards given on the basis of demonstrated aid eligibility, academic promise, a demonstrated high personal character, and commitment to public service. These are offered in different majors.

International Student Scholarships

For foreign students who can demonstrate a strong academic record and leadership ability. The student also must live on campus.

Merit Awards

Are offered for student who have achieved a the required GPA and ACT scores. As example, this will generally be around a GPA of 3.5 and a minimum ACT composite score of 25.

Awards of Circumstance

These half-tuition scholarships are provided by a wide variety of benefactors. For instance, they may be available to employees or dependents of employees from certain companies or certain states.

Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC)

Army and Air Force scholarships range in award amount from a fixed sum such as $4,000 to full tuition and fees.
